LANGUAGE of love!

OVERVIEW

description

Gary Chapman’s book, The 5 Love Languages, explains that each person has a preference in how we like to be loved, or a love “language.”  The five languages are:

  • Quality Time
  • Words of Affirmation
  • Acts of Service
  • Physical Touch
  • Receiving Gifts

We give love in our own love language, yet the person we are in a relationship with may have a different language and is doing the same thing which can cause a lot of “miscommunication” and this is why many relationships struggle.  Luckily, Gary created an online quiz to help us figure it all out.  You can even take a quiz on behalf of your kids to determine what their love language is.

Host an event and invite your clients to take the free quiz, discover their own language and that of anyone close to them that you want to include in your event.  The conversation will be lots of fun and you’ll be helping them improve their own relationships.  It’s value that keeps giving and giving!

The quiz takes between 5-10 minutes to take so you'll want to have other things for your clients to enjoy doing if there are several people waiting to take the quiz. Take the quiz yourself before you begin planning your event.

WHAT TO ASK

  • When selecting your venue consider the following:
    • Select a space in which your guests will feel comfortable and welcome.  I suggest a more intimate or personal space rather than a corporate or office space.  Your home, a private room in a restaurant or a club house may be perfect.
    • Things to consider when selecting your venue:
      • Do you have a good dedicated space to serve refreshments?
      • Do you have ample comfortable seating for guests?
      • I would suggest a two hour, open house type, evening event.
      • How many people can you comfortably host at one time?  You can invite 4 times this number if you do an open-house type event.
      • Do they allow photo and video?
      • Can you bring in outside food and beverages? (ask about alcohol if you want to provide it)
      • Are there any parking restrictions?  Is parking free?  Where do they recommend parking?
      • What is their cancellation policy?
      • Are there any restrictions other than those you have already discussed?  (See below, also)
      • Do they have free WiFi?
    • Holding this event in your home may be simpler than coordinating with a venue.
      • Consider hiring a caterer or choose simple foods you can prepare ahead of time and pull out just before.
      • Consider bringing someone in to help you clean your home before the event so you can focus on getting your clients to the event.

Have an extra tablet or laptop available for your clients to use to take the quiz in case they don't have their own mobile device.

Print out the WiFi password and 5 Love Languages web address (https://www.5lovelanguages.com/) and place it around the venue to make it easy for your guests to get on the WiFi and take the quiz!

MAXIMIZE THE IMPACT!

There are many things you can do to make your event more memorable and increase the likelihood they will talk about your event and share it on their social media feeds.

  • Create some fun give away bags.  You can be really creative here as you’re hosting a “love” event.  Hershey hugs or kisses, red hots, candy hearts, etc.
  • Give your clients a handout to give them guidance on how to love another in each language. (see Resources section below)
  • Consider providing name tags to make people feel more comfortable and help you learn the names of people you don’t know.
    • Once they know their primary love language (or top two) they can add this to their name tag to make conversations even more fun.  This also allows you to see at a glance who may have not yet taken the quiz.
